Komun’go: Six-Stringed Zither

Komun’go: Six-Stringed Zither

Plucked chordaphone. The komun’go (which means “black crane zither” ), six-stringed zither of Korea, came from ancient Chinese wokonghou (horizontal harp). The performance of this instrument appears in the 3rd-5th -century tomb paintings of ancient Korea. Three of its six silk strings run from a bridge, and the other three in the middle are fixed with 16 thin wooden frets (only the first functioning as a bridge). A bamboo stick works like a plectrum.
