一则报道：日本出现售价7500日元的竹萨克斯。 有一位叫做Eric Dieter Clermont德国人来到泰国，利用泰国当地盛产的竹子，试制历来由金属材料制作的西洋吹管乐器——萨克斯。Eric Dieter Clermont先生在小时候就非常喜爱萨克斯，但萨克斯昂贵的价格让他望而却步。“能够吹上二手萨克斯就高兴的不得了，”他说。长大以后，在20世纪７０年代，一位意大利艺术家告诉了他制作哨片乐器的相关知识和原理，于是他开始研究尝试着用不同的材料制作萨克斯。经过20多年的时间，最后认定竹子是除金属材料以外做萨克斯的最佳材料，经过不泄努力，终于成功地制作出了竹萨克斯。

在泰国的竹林里 他选用质地优良、强度高、声音好的竹材，把选好的竹子在竹林里砍倒后，原地晾晒，以防虫蛀，并能抵抗天气变化。制作人员是当地的泰国人，由于用纯手工加工，所以制作起来比较难，产量不太高。竹萨克斯由17个直径20毫米－80毫米的竹环相互衔接组成，能吹奏半音，音域一个半至两个八度。现已经能制作常用的各个调的萨克斯，其中最高音的小bＢ调还可制作成直管和弯管两种。竹萨克斯的音质独具特点，做工精致细腻，外观应该说也很漂亮。
