堂鼓 TANGGU: HALL DRUM

堂鼓

有大小两种形制。大堂鼓的鼓面直径可达1米以上，发音宏亮、低沉；小堂鼓的鼓面直径仅20至30厘米，发音坚实、有力。堂鼓常在民间节日喜庆时与锣、钹等打击乐器一起敲奏，也用于民间器乐合奏及戏曲、歌舞的伴奏。

TANGGU: HALL DRUM

The tanggu, a kind of hall drum, is constructed in two types. The larger one, with its surface diameter over 100cm, can produce a deep and sonorous tone, while the smaller, only 20-30 cm for its surface diameter, is solid and forceful in tone quality. In addition to the event of folk ensemble, the drum is traditionally played with luo (gong) and bo (cymbals) on the occasion of folk festivals or celebrations, and in the accompaniment of local operas and singing and dancing as well.
