瓯 OU: SET OF MUSICAL BOWLS

瓯

击奏体鸣乐器。为陶制器皿，形如小碗。唐武宗时，有人用瓯12个，各盛水调节成不同音高，用竹筷敲奏出美妙的音乐。1982年，从福建省建瓯县出土一套铜瓯，是迄今所见铜瓯的唯一实物。共12件，是宋代制品，声音清越、亮丽，这套铜瓯已铸成固定音高，不必用水调音。

OU: SET OF MUSICAL BOWLS

Struck idiophone. The instrument is actually a pottery utensil, a small bowl in shape. In the times of Emperor Wuzhong (841~847) of the Tang date, a set of 12 ou with water, adjusted in different pitches, were played with a pair of bamboo chopsticks. The archaeological find is a bronze set of 12 from the Song date (960~1279) in Fujian Province in 1982. This set, pure and clear in tone quality, was cast in fixed pitches, thus no need to adjust with water.
